HOSPICE: UTQG has an ongoing community service project providing quilts for our local hospice centers at the Collierville location and at Baptist Hospital.  Making the quilts is a team effort shared by our members.

Community service provides kits from our donated fabric.  Members sew quilt tops. Then tops, batting, and backing are assembled and other members quilt them. Then as the process continues, still other members add binding and a label.

The quilts are approximately 40" X 60" but can vary in size.

In the past two years we have provided between 100-150 quilts per year.

SPECIAL PROJECT:  We are collecting wall hangings that you may have made but no longer want.  These will be used to decorate the family respite room at the hospital.  If you have any you would like to donate, be sure they have a sleeve and bring them to the November meeting.

2024-25 PRIZES:

We have decided to give the prizes for the individuals who signed off on completing the most steps toward completion of Hospice Quilts for 24-25.

Three prizes were rewarded to: 1st- Christina G., 2nd- Donna N., and 3rd- Stacye Richardson

We wish we could give everyone a gift because we could not do this without you.

MAY 2025 COMMITTEE THANK YOU:

Hello again, ladies. We were astounded last month, once again, with all the quilts you brought in for Hospice. I know we say this a lot but we truly mean it, all of you volunteering your time, talents, expertise and love means a lot to the men and woman who receive your quilts. There has not been even one time, when I have dropped off quilts, that someone at the Hospice Center hasn't commented on how appreciative they are for those quilts. They tell me about the family members who remark about what it means to them and often about how the quilts have brought them together. It's started conversations and moments to share memories. You are a great group of ladies and it's been our committee's honor to be part of this guild. Your generous endeavors have made a big difference in the lives of many.

Getting Involved:

In 2024-25 we delivered 107 quilts to the hospice unit at Baptist Collierville, 9 to the hospice unit at Baptist East and 28 Wall Quilts to Baptist East. Our group of volunteers made 106 quilt kits and we still have some fabric to make more kits! We are so proud of our guild for all they do for the Hospice Centers.

As a reminder for the kits, we would like to ask that you make and turn in any additional blocks so we can make some scrappy/sampler quilts. Also, if you don't need the pattern sheets, we'd like them returned so we can put them with the kits that don't have patterns yet. Remember, if you take a kit and want to use a different pattern with it, you are welcome to do anything you like. Try something new just to see if you like a pattern you've seen somewhere. We appreciate anything you do for these quilts.

We have some new members join our committee who have offered up some new ideas. We may find other ways to give to our community. We don't want to be stretched too much or overwhelm you in any way. BUT If you have any ideas, we would love to hear them. Over the years we have made for Sons and Daughters, Firemen, Military, Head Start (pillow cases), quilts for Baptist East children's ward, St. Columba's retreat center and Sept. 11th survivors. That's only the ones I remember off the top of my head. With several of our members in Mississippi and Fayette County, maybe you can offer up suggestions where we might take a few quilts.
