President's Block

2016

It's been our tradition to make each year's outgoing president a quilt block of their choice.

Pat has chosen a twelve inch finished cat block. She doesn't care what the cat looks like, but here's a pieced cat if you need one, you may adapt it if you wish. If you choose to applique a cat, leave her a lot of white space around the cat.

She wants white for the background, and a bright colored cat body.

There are two different ways to make the body and ears of the cat. Here's the link for the templates to trace:

Again, make SURE you un-click the 'shrink to fit' or 'fit to page' option before you print your pattern.

The rectangle body of the cat should measure 7½ x 3 including seam allowances .

When you get finished with the cat body, you'll need to add some strips to make the block the full 12½ inches.

Cut two white strips 8½ by 2 inches to sew where the letter C shows in the diagram to the right.

Cut two white strips 8½ by 2½ inches to sew where the letter B shows in the diagram to the right.

Finally, cut two white strips 12½ x 2½ inches to sew where the letter A shows in the diagram to the right.

Your block should now measure 12½ square.

Here's what sixteen of these bright cats might look like when sewn together!

Please sign your quilt block somewhere on the block with a pigma pen.
