Very Squarey Halloween Block

How about a simple 8 inch square in square block for September's Block of the Month? The fat quarter swap is for Halloween and Fall themes, so you'll probably be looking for these fabrics anyway, to purchase or dig out of your stash.

Making these in September will let the winner have enough time to combine all the blocks into a project to complete and display this season.

Here's the rotary cutting diagram.

You'll need two 5 inch squares, cut on the diagonal, to make the triangles you want on the outside of your block.

Cut your four middle triangles from one 5¼ square.

The focus fabric in the center calls for one 4½ square.

Fussy cut the center squares to show off the focus fabric.

Sew your 4 smaller triangles to the edges of the center square. Press. Sew your 4 larger triangles to the edges of your new square.

When the block's done, press and trim, if needed. It should measure 8½ inches square when you're done.

Here's a possible design idea. With nine 8 inch blocks and a couple of borders, this wall hanging measures 38 inches square. If you made it a little bigger, it'd be a cute table covering too.

We'll do this in traditional block of the month style. You can bring up to two blocks for two chances in the drawing to win them all.
