It's time once again to make a block for the guild president. Linda has chosen a cat block. She wants the body of the cats in red, pink, or navy, and the background in cream. She wants her cats facing both ways, too!

You'll need to cut seven pieces as outlined in the cutting diagram to the left. Seam allowances are included.

First, make the ears.

Place the two 2" squares on the little 2 x 4½" cream rectangle, right sides together. Sew on the diagonal as shown, corner to corner.

Trim the bottom triangles off, leaving a ¼ seam allowance, as shown on the upper left, then flip down the blue triangle. Press.

This is where you have to decide if you want a right facing cat or a left facing cat. Arrange your 2½" strips according to the diagram to the left.

Use the same sew & flip technique. Sew on the diagonal, trim ¼ away from the seam line. Open flat and press.

Now sew all the pieces together, as shown on the right.

(The layout for a left facing cat is shown. Make yours either way.)

Press.

Please use a permanent fabric pen to sign your block wherever you wish. Now you are done!

The block should measure 8" x 10" including seam allowances.

Here's one I put together in EQ, using Linda's chosen colors of red, pink, and navy with cream backgrounds.

I decided to see what it would look like with blue sashing and navy cornerstones. Since the cats are facing both ways, they looked nice put together without sashing too. :)
