All
of the blocks will finish at 16 inches square, and have the same four
patch in the corners.
The four patches are made with 2½ inch squares. Choose colors that have a lot of contrast, a dark with a light. If you made all the two-patches with us at the beginning of the series, you have a head start! Here's the link to the introduction page. |

This block's going to have paper pieced segments. You need to print four of page 1, with the rectangles, and print two of page 2, with the half square triangles. http://www.ucquilts.com/portable/sweet16block4.pdf I chose to paper piece that center diamond even though it is a simple block because with making one block, it's just easier. :) But you can scroll down on this page for a chart with rotary cutting instructions, if you prefer to do it that way. |

Remember, make sure before you print, page scaling should be set to None so your paper pieces print at the exact size you'll need them for this block. |

I paper pieced the rectangles first, putting the orange stripe down first and attaching the blue and white triangles as on the two examples on the left side of the picture. Then I added the lime green triangle on the bottom, as in the two examples on the right. |

Next I made the four orange and white half square triangles, and attached them to the previously made four-patches, making a rectangle the same size as the ones above. Then, paying attention to the layout, sew the two rectangles together, making four identical 8½ inch squares. Rotate the squares so that the 4-patches are at the outer corners, and sew them together, making your finished block. |

Here's rotary cutting instructions for people who prefer to do that. I'd still assemble the bits in the same order as above, starting with the orange chisel shaped piece, adding the blue, then white, then green to make a rectangle, and using the orange and four white triangles to make a half-square triangle. |

The block should now measure 16½ inches square. What does YOUR block look like? |
