Sweet Sixteen Series—Block Six

All of the blocks will finish at 16 inches square, and have the same four patch in the corners.

The four patches are made with 2½ inch squares. Choose colors that have a lot of contrast, a dark with a light. If you made all the four-patches with us at the beginning of the series, you have a head start!

Here's the link to the introduction page.

This block has a paper pieced segment, that "square in square" center. I've also included the paper piece patterns for the edge and corner units if you prefer to sew them that way. Just print what you need. :) I didn't give cutting instructions for that center square because it's a weird measurement. MUCH easier to paper piece!

Remember, make sure before you print, page scaling should be set to

None

so your paper pieces print at the exact size you'll need them for this block.

I prefered to use sew-and-flip squares to make my star points.

All of the strips and squares used are 2½ wide, which makes it super easy.

Follow the sizes for cutting in the chart to the right.

You'll need 8 short segments that attach to the corners, and 8 long segments that will make the edges.

Note that the wedges are not the same, some diagonal "in" and some diagonal "out".

You'll need to sew that lone blue square to one of your short segments that go on the corners (see below) so pay attention to which direction the wedges lean!

Press.

The block should now measure 16½ inches square.
